African Majesty 12.25.97

Under the African sky
We feel insignificant
Its majesty so expansive
We are all one on the plains
Under its watch
Man and beast share lush green breezes
Find protection in the shadows
And warmth under its rays

Nature mandates that the strong survive
And we submit to this law
As cheetah mamma feeds her young
The tasty remains of her gazelle kill
Bloody, they lick their lips
And clean their spots

Under the African sky
I understand my place in nature
And what I must do to survive
How small is my world of artifice
Compared with life's unspoiled treasures
Those unfettered by the devices of man

How real the choices
Life or death
The law of nature prevails
Under the direction of the endless African sky
